How is First Timothy Structured?
First Timothy is a letter, written by Paul in the 60s A.D. to his apostolic representative, Timothy, who was working to set the church in Ephesus in order. First Timothy shares an obvious and basic structure with all other letters in the New Testament. It has an introduction and greeting (1:1-2), a body (1:3-6:19), and a farewell or closing (6:20-21).
First Timothy has its own unique structure as well. Though some might outline it differently, the outline below gives the structure we are using on Sunday mornings to help us understand what Paul has to say.
