First Baptist Church, Wycombe's Purpose...

We are a fellowship of Christian believers honoring God through worship, spiritual growth, service, and outreach.

Our Mission

Reaching our community and beyond with the good news that Jesus saves (Luke 15, 19:10)

Teaching believers through the Bible how to love God and love their neighbors as themselves (Col. 1:28; Matthew 22:37-40)

Sending those believers back out into the world to share with others the story of how Jesus saved them (Rom. 10:13-15; Acts 1:8)

Our Core Values

FOUNDATIONAL

What is most important to us
  • The Word of God - We believe the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the inspired Word of God, inerrant in the original writings, complete as the revelation of God's will for salvation, and the supreme and final authority in all matters to which they speak. We further believe in the literal, historical, and grammatical method of interpretation (II Timothy 3:16-17).
  • The Trinity - We believe in one God, creator and sustainer of all things, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; that these are equal in every divine perfection, and that they execute distinct but harmonious offices in the work of creation, providence, and redemption (Hebrews 1:1-2, Ephesians 1, Colossians 1:16-17, Genesis 1:2).
  • God the Father - We believe in God the Father, an infinite, personal Spirit, perfect in holiness, wisdom, power, and love. We believe He concerns Himself mercifully in the affairs of men, that He hears and answers prayer, and that He saves from sin and death all who come to Him through Jesus Christ (John 4:24, I John 1:5, John 3:16, I Peter 5:6-7).
  • Jesus Christ - We believe that Jesus Christ is God's eternal Son and has precisely the same nature, attributes, and perfections as God the Father and God the Holy Spirit. We believe further that He is not only true God, but true man, conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. We also believe in His sinless life, His substitutionary atonement, His bodily resurrection from the dead, His ascension into heaven, His priestly intercession on behalf of His people, and His personal, visible, pre-millennial return to earth in glory (John 1:1-2, Philippians 2:5-8, Matthew 1:18-25, Hebrews 4:14-15, I Corinthians 15:3-4, Revelation 19:11-20:6).
  • Holy Spirit - We believe in the Holy Spirit, His personality, and His work in regeneration, sanctification, and preservation. His ministry is to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ and implement Christ's work of redeeming the lost and empowering the believer for godly living   service (John 16:5-15, Ephesians 1:13, Titus 3:5, Acts 1:8).
  • Man - We believe God created man, male and female, in the image of God and free from sin. We further believe man is a sinner by nature and choice and is therefore spiritually dead. We also believe that those who repent of sin and trust Jesus Christ as Savior are regenerated by the Holy Spirit (Genesis 1:26-27, Romans 5:12, Acts 2:38).
  • Salvation - We believe in salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. We further believe that this salvation is based upon the sovereign grace of God, was purchased by Christ on the cross, and is received by man through faith, apart from any human merit, works, or ritual. We further believe salvation results in righteous living, good works, and proper social concern (Ephesians 2:8-10, Romans 5:10).
  • The Church - We believe that the church is the spiritual body of which Christ is the head. We believe that the true church is composed of all persons who through saving faith in Jesus Christ have been regenerated by the Holy Spirit. We believe that this body expresses itself in local assemblies whose members have been immersed upon a credible confession of faith and have associated themselves for worship, for instruction, for evangelism, and for service. We believe the ordinances of the local church are believer's baptism by immersion and the Lord's Supper. We also believe in fellowship with churches of like faith, and the mutual submission of believers to each other in love (Colossians 1:18, I Corinthians 12:13, Acts 2:38, 41 Matthew 28:19-20, Matthew 26:26-29, Ephesians 5:21, I John 1:7).
  • Separation of Church and State - We believe that each local church is self-governing in function and must be free from interference by any ecclesiastical or political authority. We further believe that every human being is directly responsible to God in matters of faith and life, and that each should be free to worship God according to the dictates of his conscience (II Corinthians 6:14-15, Galatians 6:4-5).
  • Christian Conduct - We believe that the supreme task of every believer is to glorify God in his life; that his conduct should be blameless before the world; that he should be a faithful steward of his possessions; and that he should seek to realize for himself the full stature of maturity in Christ (Ephesians 4:22-24, Romans 8:28-29).
  • Last Things - We believe in the bodily resurrection of the saved and lost, the eternal existence of all men either in heaven or hell, and in divine judgments with rewards or punishments (I Corinthians 15:22, Revelation 20:11-15).

MINISTRY

Our covenant with each other

Having received Christ as my Lord and Savior and been baptized, and being in agreement with the doctrinal statement of the First Baptist Church of Wycombe, I am led by the Holy Spirit to joyfully enter into covenant with this church family.

 By God's grace, I commit myself to Him and to the other members of this family to do the following:

  •  I will protect the unity of my church (Ephesians 4:3)
       by acting in love toward other members (I Peter 1:22);
       by edifying one another with words of encouragement (Ephesians 4:29);
       by respecting the leaders and upholding them in prayer (I Thessalonians 5:12).
  •  I will share the responsibility of my church (I Corinthians 12:27)
       by preparing my heart to worship the true and living God (Psalm 24:3-6);
      by praying for and promoting its spiritual health (Romans 12:10-12);
      by seeking the salvation of the lost (Matthew 28:19-20).
  •  I will serve the ministry of my church
      by discovering my spiritual gift(s) (I Corinthians 12:4-7);
      by seeking to develop and use my spiritual gift(s) (I Peter 4:10);
      by developing a servant's heart (Philippians 2:3-4).
  •  I will support the testimony of my church
      by attending faithfully (Hebrews 10:25);
      by living a godly life (Ephesians 4:22-24);
      by giving regularly (I Corinthians 16:2).

 If I should ever move from this ministry, I will seek out another church where I can carry out the principles of God's Word and this covenant.
